Student Sick – Skypes to attend class

Today was a first. I have a very academically driven student who doesn’t like to miss class. He has been sick and the doctor has told him to stay home for two days. I received an email from him requesting that I teach him via Skype. My physics class was working in pairs on a project and this student participated in class via Skype from his home. He and his partner discussed and planned their project using Skype and Google Docs. This seemed to go very well with this group. I think I’m going to make this an option for any student home sick who feels they cannot miss class.
(PS Last fall I had taught this same student a lesson from a campground over the weekend after he missed a Friday class, so he knew this was a possibility)
